Students and their families have been exposed to people, programs, resources, and connections that can open doors for them, and they are able to navigate and access those opportunities.
Introduction
Part of my role as a teacher is providing my students with access to experiences that they otherwise would not have been able to take part in. As a second grade teacher, this is especially exciting because my young students are still discovering the world. They are so eager to learn and explore. It is also important to provide students with opportunities based on their interests and needs. This portfolio discusses two different opportunities. Students learned about and researched a variety of community helpers, including a nurse guest speaker and a field trip to the fire department. Students also learned about other cultures by welcoming multicultural guest speakers into our classroom. Click the links below to learn more about these projects.
Conclusion
In conclusion, my role as a teacher extends well beyond teaching math, reading, writing, social studies, and science. 'It is also my job to provide students with opportunities that will serve the whole child. This involves reaching outside the bounds of my curriculum and often outside the school itself. The two opportunities discussed in this portfolio will hopefully provide students with access to increased opportunities long after they leave Monarch Academy. These opportunities have helped students begin to think about their careers and learn how to navigate a multicultural world. I hope that both of these experiences will allow them to expand their choices and opportunities now and throughout their lives.
